What is LASIK

LASIK, short for Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis, is a highly sought-after refractive eye surgery designed to enhance vision by reshaping the cornea—the clear front part of the eye. This safe and advanced procedure effectively corrects common vision issues, including nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism, leading to improved visual clarity and reduced dependency on glasses or contact lenses.

Types of procedures

There are two primary types of LASIK procedures: traditional LASIK and Bladeless LASIK. The traditional method involves a microkeratome blade to create a corneal flap, while the bladeless technique employs a laser, offering enhanced precision and reduced potential complications.

The entire LASIK process is quick, virtually painless, and has a rapid recovery period, allowing you to resume most of your daily activities within a short time. Many patients experience immediate improvements in their vision after the surgery, with results continuing to optimize in the following days.

What is LASIK & Refractive Surgery co-management?

Our Co-management of LASIK and Refractive Surgery programs involves a collaboration between our optometrist and a LASIK surgeon. Our dedicated team will provide you with personalized care throughout the LASIK journey, addressing any questions or concerns you may have.

Prior to the procedure, a comprehensive eye examination will be conducted by our team to assess your suitability for the surgery and then refer you to a trusted surgeon. Following the surgery, we will provide ongoing care, monitoring your recovery and addressing any potential complications.

If LASIK is not the best option for you, our experts will recommend alternative treatments that align with your vision goals.

Considerations:

It's important to consider certain factors before proceeding with LASIK. Not everyone is an ideal candidate, as conditions such as severe dry eyes or corneal diseases may prevent you from undergoing the procedure. Additionally, while the success rate is high, LASIK does not guarantee 20/20 vision for everyone. As with any surgical procedure, there are inherent risks and potential side effects, necessitating a detailed discussion with your eye doctor and surgeon.

At Red House Vision Centre, we are dedicated to guiding you through the LASIK process to achieve the best possible outcome for your vision. Our co-management approach ensures a seamless and supportive experience, with expert care at every step of the way. Let's take this step towards a brighter, clearer future together.
